#2hiya mate my car is the same except mine will do it over bumps to i been told its my top mounts both sides a fair bit of play to
-
#3Driveshaft ball joint needs looking at tbh
-
#4a wheel bearing seems like the problem
had mine done several months ago and no more knocking (id get both sides done at once)
-
#6Driveshaft/CV for show. If its a constant knocking
-
#7I have replaced the wheel bearings, hub, wishbone (and bushes) and the only thing left to replace is the driveshaft. And to be honest, you could have problems with any one of them, I had it up on ramps for hours listening to it to determine where it was coming from with no real luck.
-
#8i have this too, but does it when i turn right aswell.
replaced pair driveshafts, wishbones and drop links with new, and its still knocking. been told its the bearings/seal in the centre of the steering rack NOT the top strut bearings -
#9That's a new one! I have the occasional knock on full lock from the top struts but that doesn't bother me, it's the thud thud thud in time to the wheels that annoys me! Just got the driveshaft to replace before I scrap this thing.
-
#10yes mine thuds too lol, like i said iv replaced everything else. got a mate to look at it as he knows his way around most carsQuote:That's a new one! he said not many people know its the centre of steering rack that knocks, and that they always change the shafts etc 1st .
they only cost 25 new , but not changing it till next year now. -
#11Also got squeaky brakes, but the squeak stops when you press them... :-(Quote:yes mine thuds too lol, like i said iv replaced everything else. got a mate to look at it as he knows his way around most cars

So the centre of the steering rack knocks in rotation to the wheels? -
#12yes when going round corners or when your steering is slightly to the right/left.
not saying that will be your problem, just an idea .
iv changed everything else on mine, and been advised its that but also been told it cant get any worse than what it is, so it can wait because im not pulling the engine out for a 3rd time in a month lol -
#13Hmm, this could explain the steering wheel being slightly to the right, car was tracked 2 weeks previous and then one day I just noticed the steering wheel was turned to the right, no kerbing or pot holes to explain it.
I might not change the driveshaft afterall , do you happen to have a part number and/or a guide or some pictures of what needs to be replaced so I can assess it... -
#14i havent mate, i got that quote of £25 from a local motor store. will see if i can find any pics on google for you.1 user thanked this post:

#15this is the item i was on about, it goes in the centre of the track rod arms
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CENTRAL-IN...item3cb3fcfc96
this is what it looks like on the actual steering rack, (centre part of the track rod arms)

#17Had a look at those links today, and it does appear to be a fairly simple part, but it might not be so easy to get to and replace!Quote:Cheers, I'll have to look when I get in the car (proxy at work)
I think my first port of call will be the driveshaft, as the CV boot has come off it so the joint is knackered :-( -
#18it can be done , but fiddly. ideally its a hell of alot easier if you have the engine out .
-
#19I am a girl and have no idea!!! is it dangerous?? think i'd best get it to a garage!! x

#21Replaced the driveshaft as the CV boot was knackered and the gearbox seal was leaking, problem has now gone, the car is once again silent to drive!Quote:Had a look at those links today, and it does appear to be a fairly simple part, but it might not be so easy to get to and replace!

Quote:I am a girl and have no idea!!! is it dangerous?? think i'd best get it to a garage!! xI would take it to a garage that your family has used in the past, or use Trust A TraderQuote:Take it to your local independent garage, you'll get ripped off by anyone like kwit fit. Hope you can get it sorted. -
