Oil Filter Housing Issue

  1. #1
    Hi all,

I have looked through a good few posts and couldn't find the answer so... can anybody tell me a part number or what the actual part is called for the oil filter housing on a mkII VTR 2002. I serviced the car at weekend but this slightly snapped and i couldn't believe the amount of oil it pissed out!

Had to get the train back to work and I can't get back to fix it for 2 weeks so i'm in no rush but i would like to source the part if possible.

    Any help appreciated guys.
    Thanks in advance.

The plastic screw-on filter housing is part number 1103J5.

doesnt need to be done up tight. first time i changed mine 2 sundays back and its been fine. just when you get the new one, change the o ring and do it up hand tight, then if theres still some more go gentle with the socket!

    Thanks guys,

Is there any advice you can give me in terms of tools for getting it off? I couldn't remove it at all, tried all sorts of tools but mole grips is actually what snapped the top of it, causing it to piss oil everywhere!

socket usually does the job on mine, you just have to be carefull and don't force it too much

Thanks mate, i'll give it a go. Suppose if i get a new one it wont matter about fucking the old one up.

A big socket on the top always works for me. Think it's 30-32mm?

it's a 27mm long socket is what you need. and torque it up to 25nm is all it needs. and replace the 'o' ring aswell.

Don't bother using a socket mate just do it up hand tight.

The heat can make it get stuck on tight and the plastic nut on top can easily snap.

When I first got my VTR it had been done up way too tight using a socket and I had to cut it off and replace it.

Did it up by hand for two oil changes and was fine, but running a mk1 vtr filter now due to having a 4-1

How did you manage to cut it off if it's threaded? Mine is super tight, so much so that i broke the plastic nut, which is why i have to replace it!
