I've had the common problem with the pas on my vtr. Its been intermittment, pleasing itself when it would decide to start working. This was usually about 5mins after the ignition switched on. The demister and heated rear screen have always worked fine. I've followed the advice from the posts on here about it, like crossing the brown wires on the connector behind the dash, etc, etc. This is my question now...the pas has stopped working altogether now and I got the engine management light lit on the dash today. If the pas pump has failed completely would that cause the light to come on ?? Also, Is there any inline fuse for the pump other than the one in the fusebox under the dash?? Cheers.

#2try hitting pas pump with a hammer to free it up

#3The EML light should not come on if PAS pump has failed, but could have picked up bad wiring somewhere.. Get a fault code reader on it, also as sam said tap it with a hammer might fire it back in to life for a while.

#4Cheers Sam & Furio. I gave the pump a few whacks and it started again. But, the EM light is still on. The engine idle is not as smooth and I've noticed that the chrome tail pipe on the exhaust is completely black instead of being shiny. Any more ideas fellas ??
