  1. #1
Just got my saxo back from MOT and the result was a fail im not too suprised as its very rusty and corroded in places, the garage quoted me £550 to fix everything but i don't have that money atm and don't really think its worth the cost to be honest, if anyones got a few mins to spare id appreciate if you could take a look at the resons for refusal below and tell me how much you think its going to cost to fix my self and or if it worth doing or even do able :

    Measurements

Brakes FAilures: RBT Servive brake efficiency: 46%, RBT park brake efficiency 8%

Reasons For Refusal of a Test Certificate

001 offside front constant velocity joint gaiter split [2.5.c.1a]

002 offside front (inner face) brake disc(s) in such a condition that it is seriously weakened [3.5.1h]

003 nearside rear brake pipe excessively corroded [3.6.b.2c]

004 offside front brake pipe excessively corroded [3.6.b.2c]

005 nearside (jack piont area) suspension component mounting prescribed area is inadequately repaired [2.4.a.2]

006 offside rear parking brake recording little or no effort [3.7.a.7a]

007 service brake efficiency below requirements [3.7.a.9]

008 parking brake efficiency below requirements [3.7.a.10]

Thanks for your time, going to creep ebay and other places and see what i can find lol

type a saxo you got 1.1?

The thing i would say is. Is it really worth fixing. How much do you enjoy driving it? etc

could maybe break some parts make little cash and add it to that 550 qouted and then see about a better condition'd one?

Just some thoughts and it must be gutting seeing that but i suppose its just how things are nowadays

    Good luck

Looks like your entire fuel system is rotten, I'm surprised the master cylinder is not on that list. Either scrap or sell the parts, it's not worth it as the car itself is worth barely £200 or 300.

Cut your losses and buy another car really.

How handy are you in terms of 'Home Mechanics' ?

It sounds like u need to recondition your calipers apply some new handbrake cables & pipes etc.
Get some new disks & pads and whack on a cv boot (stretchy universal) for a cheap fix.

If you can get it on a set of axel stands maybe get a competant friend to help you it could be saved???

Whats with the inadequet repair of the jacking area, does it need welding etc.
If so go to your local garage and ask who they use for welding repairs then go to them for a direct price so you cut out the middle man.

Bare in mind that your brake system will need a good bleed but if you wanna save not scrap the decision is in your hands.

To be honest it looks an easy enough fix to me apart from obviously you will need to get it welded professionally but the rest you could do yourself in a day.

hello all, thanks for the replys, been chatting with my dad and we have chosen to fix it shopping around now for the parts and he can even do the welding (hes pretty damn good at it)

however looking for replacement brake pipes online but mainly comming accross brake hoses. can you get hoses to replace the pipe/hose fittings

no, you need to buy yourself a cheap brake pipe flaring tool about 25 quid, a roll of brake pipe about 12 quid and a box of end fittings for a couple of quid and make you own using the old ones as patterns

ok cheers my dads mates got a flaring kit we can use for it, its nice to know thanks

Tbh i`ve seen a car failure list a lot worse than that so it`s worth fixing mate.

theres no mention of any fault with the fuel system on his fail sheet though?

i would say change your rear shoes and cylinders (60-75 quid)
front disk and pads (includied in the price above)
brake pipes are easy enough, id charage about £5 per pipe if you bought the old ones to me.

    thats 2,3,4,6,7 and 8 sorted.

CV boot - 30-60 fitted about 6-12 quid to buy it yourself
and about 30 quid of welding on the jacking point.

    its not that bad actually.

Agree with Tonto, its all down to whether you can do it yourself though to make it worth while. Ask around on here and see if there's any local mechanics willing to give it a go, the jobs that need doing would take half a day maximum.

If you like the car get it repaired, if not break it and start again.
