Basically whenever the car is on in neutral it sounds abit loud from the engine, Then as soon as i drive about when my foot hits the accelarator it sounds like ive got a aftermarket exhaust (whenever in any gear), but its coming from under the bonnet. Any ideas what this could be?
Really loud

#3Yeh but ive checked the exhaust and cant find any holes or splits & if it was would it make it louder even when in neutral?
-
#4Your stationary, going to sound louder than when moving..
If the noise sounds like a blowing exhaust.. then they normally blow where the manifold meets the centre section. New gasket+paste will fix that.1 user thanked this post: -

#6Check the manifold/downpipe meet under the heatshield. Also check the manifold gasket where it meets the head, i had this for a while.

#8yeah i have this took, exhaust bracket snapped and the front section is swinging free on the manifold, bent the manifold creating air leaks, go to halfords and buy exhaust paste for £4
if the exhaust is swinging free weld it up nice to stop it breaking the seal again

#9band aid on a wooden leg. If it's cracked, it's more often than not because of rust. You don't want to have that stuff snapping on you when you're driving.Quote:yeah i have this took, exhaust bracket snapped and the front section is swinging free on the manifold, bent the manifold creating air leaks, go to halfords and buy exhaust paste for £4

#10nah mine is fine, its not cracked, went down a very bad lane and hit the exhaustQuote:band aid on a wooden leg. If it's cracked, it's more often than not because of rust. You don't want to have that stuff snapping on you when you're driving.
it should be fine when it gets welded back on

#11I still would have it changed, exhausts can snap and fall in the blink of an eye. I had it once, my mum had it once and it is a major pain in the ass when it happens, as you're stuck and will burn yourself if you try anything straight away. Always carry a few plastic straps, it can become handy at some point.

#12i know but honestly it is a-ok...i carry metal strapping around
its a rather new exhaust and i only paid £350 for the car so not gonna spend it on the car yet

#13Fair enough mate. Reminds me once about a quote from the dealers for a full system, the girl came back with a £700 quote, excluding labour and VAT. Maybe look for a new manifold if you can source one for cheap.

#14Yeh its off the exhaust manifold where it hits the downpipe, hole in it because one of the bolts is snapped, fucking garage are shit, does anyone know if these bolts come out completely or do i have to get a whole new manifold? Thanks (y)
