Gearbox Oil

  1. #1
    Hi all

Where's the best place to get gearbox oil for my 2002 VTR?

I was thinking Citroen themselves, or would the correct grade from my local motorfactors do?

    Thanks in advance

They should have Fuchs Syntoid 75W80 in stock too (which is the decent stuff)

I'd recommend millers 75W80 from opie oils http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-60224-mi...-gear-oil.aspx , gearbox has been superb since putting this gear oil in smooth gear changes, can't go wrong with what barry 123 said either.

I really rate the recommended stuff from the dealers - Total BV 75W80. It's only ~£5 a litre too.

    I recommend chip fat oil

On another note is there any defined way to tell the oil level as my d/s came out the other day and leaked some but not all of the oil

There is a filler level plug which you use when you fill it up. When it comes out of the filler plug hole its up to the mark but there is no way to check if its below this mark short of dropping it all out.

Remove the level plug. If oil trickles out, the level is fine. If it doesn't add some oil (I pour it into the breather at the top) until it starts to trickle out.

Millers is great stuff... use the XFS oil in my engine, get better mpg than from PRO-S. Win.
