My H.i.d's are really dim?

Hello, bought a h.i.d kit the other day from ebay. Got the 6000k kit thinking they would be really bright. But they dnt seem any brighter than my halfords bulbs & also they are only lighting up ground dead in front of me not everything far away, only the drivers full beam works. Am i meant to take the sheild in the actual headlight out if the bulbs alredi have 1?

This would have been indicated to you in the manual. if you take the shield out, you'll blind every one else. Proper HID systems are self levelling btw

Keep the shield on - that's supposed to stop the pattern blinding everyone else like Manu said.

What kit do you have? Make sure you've wired them up correctly.

    Are they earthed correctly?

They were a kit from ebay. I earthed the driver side near the wash bottle and the passenger to the battery clamp. What makes a good earth point does it have to be bare metal

So the bulb should have 2 shields in affect

Take your bulb out of your headlamp, take a picture of it exactly how it is in your hand when you take it out, and post it on here

are they 35w or 50w? if that even makes a difference

They are 35w. Think i know why passenger full beam doesnt work, everytime i move the wire it flickers between high and low, is this because of a bad earth?

picture 2 is in the headlight

They look like the JDM headlights, cos of the black shield, am i right? I used to have JDM and they only shone light right in front of me so I smoked my standards and they are alot better.

Moving the wire sounds like a faulty / loose cable to me. Those shields are all right by the looks of it - can't figure out why they're like that. Can you post your beam pattern against a wall in the dark later?

I'd love to find out why they're like this, I'm getting a set of these soon.. I've got ones without shields so had to make my own for the time being.

It doesn't have to be but it helps it you earth it to unpainted metal, just a bit of sand paper will do to take the paint off mate
