pas problems

    got a few problems with my pas on my 1999 vts, basically it started to play up by not working at all on cold start up then it would kick in after a few corners some times after a few seconds, then other weekend i had a bit of a look and noticed it had a bit of a leak and now it doesnt work at all, when i put the steering on lock to lock and bubbles come from the resivouire.

    i tapped the pump with a small hammer and it worked for a while then stopped completly, i checked the grey relay under bonnet and it seemed fine doesnt click though as i read it should.

    also the piping is a bit dodgy leaking slightly from just under the resivoiure, i think there is a air lock some where as before when i turned lock to lock all the fluid came gushing back up and started overflowing and also bubbling, not sure what is causing all this does anyone have any ideas, cheers.

    can anyone tell me what that nut is for on the pipe what goes into the pump cheers.

    i thought these were belt driven. unsure about the relay bit :s you need to do the lock to lock to bleed the rack of air so only fluid if you got that many bubles and a leak you need to sort the leak 1st. then start looking at the pump make sure thats working

    Doubt you will need to bleed it.. Just sounds like pump has failed, replace it.

    as above, pump has gone.
    mine has just done this, leaks fluid out somewhere and relay sounds like its having a fit when engine is turned off, also battery light flickers too when engine is off due to the pump making a buzzing sound .

    ok thanks people, another question would be roughly how much are they and how hard are they to fit, and to post above its not belt driven.

    £30-£40 i got a mk1 pas pump in shed you can buy if you want. Easy to fit btw 2 pipes 1 connector. ill take some pics if intrested. Pm me.

    Cheers but your a bit far mate, thanks though also I am going to get a pump today and a relay see if that sorts it, could it be the fluid i put in I just got some hydraulic fluid psf from motorsave is there a certain 1 i need. Cheers
