i just bought a 1.6 8v saxo vtr on monday and i got her home and later on that night i was drivin and battery light started flashing and everytime i used an indicater it was bringing up all the lights and dieing, so i went and bought a new alternater which iv to put in tomorrow, on tuesday i managed to get a jump start from a mate and the engine management light was on and wont rev over 3000, so i went to a garage and they put her on a computer and it wouldnt bring up the code for the fault, im hoping its just an alternater change as the mechanic said the day it could be just the alternater as it powers the electrics, others saying its a air flow mass meter, can anyone help?

    Lambda sensor i would say..

would a 2000 1.6 16v alternanter fit into an 2001 1.6 8v? an a couple of mechanics have said a air flow meter, il put the alternanter in tomorrow and see, another thing does the electric window switches light up?

Yes it will, and cool would throw up a code though... And the window swithes dont no.

Air flow sensor wouldnt just sit at 3k revs though your car would also run 'lumpy' .. Im not to sure on the alternator front thought

I would say its like your ecu has gone into 'safe mode' but youve had it read so i dont have a clue what to suggest "/ clogged/ non firing injectors may cause this

i dont have a clue either, im new to the saxo's i drove a mk5 fiesta for 2 years, you's guys know ur stuff about saxo's im bewildered, il put the alternater in tomorrow cause that might just be the cause of the problem, cause iv just drove it home when i bought it then it done all wat i said earlier and when i got it going the engine management light was on and wont rev over 3000, i think it might be a new set of plugs and coil pack

If it was coilpack would throw up code p0300. Worth trying to plugs though.

when my eml light came on it wouldnt rev past 3k either, spent 3 days in a car garage and they just couldnt get a fault reading..took it to a citreon specialist garage and two hours later it was sorted. it was just abit of dirt in one of the fuel injectors

In my own personal experience with regards to a battery light flashing, I think it could possibly point to a mass air flow meter problem, I'm not sure though if this applies to your case. Maybe, you can check to be sure.

Reset the ecu, and see if it still does it.

Sound's like limp mode, a alternator fault wouldn't put it in limp mode.

And saxo's don't have mass airflow meters.. They use MAP sensors, and they don't put the car in limp mode either..

Try unplugging lambda's.. if that solves it, it's a dodgy sensor.
