Important! : whining when cold engine

  1. #1
    good morning all
my car has developed some realy loud whining noise.

    it comes on
    when i turn steering wheel
and/OR swithch on rear window heating or some other electrical 'extras' are used
or right before cooling fan kicks in if engine is idling.

    it goes
when i rev it just a little bit
    or when engine warms up

thought it could be alternator belt that slips (thats area where sound comes from) but it doesnt.

looking for some wise people on here to give me some advice.

    thanks

Edit: sounds comes from drivers side

EDIT: PROBLEM SOLVED- crank pulley (the one with a rubber in it) where making that noise

Sounds like power steering lacking of juice. Check your battery and alternator.

the pump electonic on a saxo so it will whine even if not turning have you checked power steering fluid level
the power steering pump is located under the bonnet passenger side in front of the gearbox

because you're drawing more amps, less goes to the PAS.

Definitely sounds like the alternator belt bud, it'll do that when you turn the wheel if it needs tightening, and when drawing more power

VTS? If so, check the crankshaft pulley - the rubber in them usually fails. You'll probably see it wobbling around if it's on the way out.
