heating matrix

  1. #1
I get in my scrapso this morning to find a lovely puddle un the passenger footwell...
just wanted to know how big of job is it and how much might it cost for parts?
  2. #2
Parts will skin you between 20-40 for a new matrix, and about 10-20 for coolant. Its not a total nightmare job, its easily doable for someone competent with the spanners, but its quite lengthy, and has a few fiddly bits in it.
  3. #3
about 60 all in - ish depending where you go. Though a bit more for labour as I wouldn't touch with a barge pole and would take it to a garage.
  4. #4
I was going to say, what does the puddle smell like? In my experience, heater matrices smell horrible when they go.
  5. #5
dash out, heater box out, not a 5 minute job especially if you've not done one before
  6. #6
Thanks for the advice... And thats not too much then.. Well me and a mate are going to get the dash and everything out this weekend hopefuly..
"Gabbastard" its deffinatly coolant by the tast of it.. Dont really have much of a smell to it tho..

Radweld will f*ck up your cooling system eventually, check that it`s not one of the pipes that`s split that go to the matrix 1st.
  13. #13
Ohh thanks for that mate mate.. Well hopefully it is a pipe.. Il find out soo finish work in an hour ..

can have it for £10 plus postage. let me know before monday as thats when im weighing shell in
  15. #15
The whole job is a pain in the butt. you have to remove so much shit to get it out. Then getting the rubber gromet back in took us forever.

Mine went about 6 months ago went to a garge for a quote they wanted 240 to do it I was like fuck that put some radseal job done havent had any problems since
  17. #17
i changed my own in around 4-5 hours on my mk2 vtr (me being a mechanic myself anyway), hardest part was removing the heater hoses from the back of the matrix under the bonnet, no room for acess with the steering rack and everything else, the worst part was i left my hose clip removal tool (the one on a cable) at work in my toolbox and had to use normal pliers

And in the end radweld will block up the flow of coolant,so not a good idea mate.
  23. #23
why bother with radweld, get an egg in there. Much cheaper bodge.
  24. #24
Ha good point but I dont want my car smelling of poached egg ha
