Chugging car!!!!!!!

  1. #1
Not sure of the technical term but my car chuggs a little when driving. Only been happening the last couple of days but was quite bad last night. You can tell more in the dark as the lights and interior lights fliker when the accelerator is pressed. and the car does not feel smooth under acceleration at all. Could this be the battery or alternator or something worse.

Any one got any ideas...... Please help

That's a lot of help might try that advice. lol. You say the light dims when you press the accelerator? The lights are to do with the electrics obviously. Maybe the alternator is not charging properly like you said. Take it to a garage as some of them offer free alternator tests. Does it start fine as you need the electrics to start the car?

How much are they, and what are they, sorry for the ignorance... Not tech minded.

It starts fine bit it is not smooth to drive and as i say the lights flicker. I have a citroen specialist down on the Quayside so might book it into them as i have another problem with the car

sounds like its misfiring. coil pack/spark plugs
  8. #8
yeah just change the spark plugs mate or take them out give them a clean will work everytime
  9. #9
...so give it some Redex perhaps???

I'd go for alternator/ coilpack, and possible earth prob if lights are dimming.

is the coil pack the same on vtr as the vts? if so I'm in sunderland and can try the spair one i've got see if that helps, also can stick volt meter on see if alt is kicking out charge
  11. #11
Cheers YM03. May have to take you up on that offer if the spark plug clean does not work. Not sue if there the same on a vts as a vtr. If any one can help!!!!!!
    Where in Sunderland are you??

adsayer: was going to try that 2 as it probs needs a clean out anyway.

    Cheers for the help guys.

PS: how much is a new coilpack/alternator??
  12. #12
my coilpack was 58 pound (cant rememba exactly) from eurocarparts.com dunno if its different for a vts though i have a vtr

  17. #17
    yup it will mate

we'll sort a time and I'll meet you just of 19
  18. #18
    prob your alternator
  19. #19
have you just had sum ice fitted with big bass

i say this because the drain on the battary/alternator from the ice is so much that it causes the car to lose power n therefore the alternator isnt providing a big enough charge.it wil be worse in the dark because the lights are on

vts coil packs are about 120 quid mate (i think) they are different to vtr ones and they are fairly easy to fit aswell
  21. #21
Cheers for the price info. Didn't think it would be that much like!!! Oh dear, it just gets worse.

As for the ice mate, it's totally standard.

    Cheers

theres two different types depending on emissions and if yours is the later of the two i think that one is 250 quid from a main dealer

try eurocarparts i've had coilpacks from them and they've been ok and reasonably priced
