My engine has been constant missfiring for a while now, changed spark plugs and the coilpack which didnt fix it. so im starting to throw money away so spoke to a friend who works at kwik fit to put it on the diagnostic machine. It was a bosch diagnostic reader which plugged in ok however it wouldnt connect... I dont supose anyone could shed some light on this really want to get it sorted

#2Strange it won't connect saxos only have a basic system and it's not unique like vag BMW and the likes
Iv read them just off a basic £30 code reader on eBay :s
Chances are it'll just come up with code p300 "multiple cylinder misfire" or code 301-304 wil tell you the exsact cylinder missing more often than not they won't though!
If uv done oil pack and spark plugs I'd try injectors
Or any sines of hg failure? -
#3The head leaks a little bit of oil not sure if this would effect it though? Im not really clued up on engines. When i say its misfiring it's runs really lumpy engine is alot louder and also loss in power.. stalled it a few times so needs to be over revved to get something out of it.
If it had a loss in compression would it be this bad? thanks -
#4Curious...doesn't the early MK1 Saxo/Pug require specific software to make the dignostic tool read the ECU?
-
#5sounds daft but you mate when trying to plug into it did it come up with all the engines and ecu ranges e.g
1.1 bosch
1.1 sagem
1.4 sagem
1.6 ect ect
i have to go through a 1.1 selection on my 1.4 for some reason on our launch diagnostics at work. did he try all the options? -
#6On my Snap-on ethos you can either use the usually generic obd2 cable, L93 cable i think. OR You can use another cable, plus an adaptor plus a key (which is a chip)
Can't say i've ever failed to connect to a saxo though!
If i were you i'd check the earths from battery negative to the chassis and gearbox, remove all, clean and put back together with some white grease to protect them. Also check the green/yellow earth cable on top of the gearbox. -
#7the kts system that kwik fit used, is a pretty advanced system. there should be no problem with it logging on to your car.
is your ECU unlocked? if so, thats the cause. -
#8It shouldn't really matter if the ECU is unlocked, just try another machine if possible.
