What Fire Extinguisher?

  1. #1
So, I've had a scary moment. I've had a small engine fire and luckily it happened outside my house as i pulled up. I popped the bonnet to find the oil filter + the whole of the Manifold on fire, quite big flames. I ran to the house and grabbed a foam extinguisher and put it out. (There isn't any damage to the engine)

It has made me want to buy a extinguisher just encase anything happens again. What do you guys use? Foam or Powder?

How do you link the extinguisher up so that you have a pull cord in the cabin and it sprays the engine?

bit of logical thinking here.... find out what caused the fire first?

If you are expecting fires all the time, then the bonnet one might be worth it, otherwise i dont see the point? just get one of those diddy point and shoot foam ones, and drive with your fingers crossed... (sorry if i sound like a prick...)

Manifold was too close to the oil filter housing, it melted this then started on my heat shrink.

The 2Kg foam ones aren't even that expensive. I was expecting them to be around £40. There half that delivered.

A decent engine fire will be too big for a 2kg one!

Powder ones make a bit of a mess of whats left of your car if you have to use it! That said... priorities! Thinking outside the box a bit, would a fire blanket work?
