Immobiliser problems

  1. #1
Right i've just taken the engine out of my 2000 plate vtr, with 1 plug ecu and fitted a 2003 vtr engine with 3 plug ecu (obviously swapped the engine looms over). I've also swapped the ignition barrel, transponder ring and immobiliser box over from the newer vtr to mine.

When i switch the ignition on everything comes on as it should, however the immobiliser light on the dash just flashs when you try and turn the engine over and it won't start.

Can anyone help me out with this? Can't see where i've gone wrong?

The ecu is locked you got something wrong somewere, as if its the original immo for that ecu it will unlock it.

This is what i can't work out, the newer vtr started fine before i took the engine out. Then today i've swapped all the immobiliser box and transponder ring etc over onto my car, connected the battery, and gone to turn it over, but all it does is keep turning and not firing and noticed the immobiliser light keeps flashing?!

I take it when the ignition is switched on, the immobiliser light should come on then go straight out again? showing that the immobiliser has been switched off?

when i switch the ignition on i can hear the fuel pump prime and also hear the fuel pump ecu, under the main ecu, click after a couple of seconds when the ignition is switched off.

so does this look like the ecu has locked itself for some reason?

Am i right in thinking that even if the ecu has locked itself for some reason, as i have everything from the original car fitted (immobiliser box, transponder ring etc), then it should unlock itself again if i can reset the ecu?

I've not disconnected the battery for the night (getting a wee bit cold in the garage , so i'll leave it disconnected til tomorrow night when i get home from work.

If anyone can shine any light on this, it will be much appreciated?

Well you done something wrong mate you not got immoblisers mixed up?
  7. #7
yeah i did think that myself but no its definitely the right one lol. If the ecu has locked itself, will it unlock having all the right immobiliser bits present? Or once its locked, its locked?

Try to wiggle the ignition pick up ring first
  9. #9
i did try wiggling it but when i reconnect the battery tonight i will try that again
  10. #10
Yerr if its the immoboliser for the ecu it will unlock 100% i know because i locked mine when i did conversion forgot to plug immo in and key light was flashing, plugged immo on fired up first time.

Right tried it again tonight and no different, tried wiggling the transponder coil and doesn't make any difference, the immobiliser light still flashes

After reading a few old posts i've read how if the ecu is left powered down for a while it can lose its programming, and the car has been sat powered down for a while before i got round to fitting it into my saxo, does this sound quite probable?

If i were to get my ecu unlocked, would i then just remove the immobiliser box and transponder coil and it should (by rights) start up?
  12. #12
if however this doesn't sound right that the ecu would lose its programming and codes, then the only thing i can think is that the transponder coil has gone, as i've checked everything in the engine and all of the loom is wired up, including all earths etc.
Done a few engine changes in the past, but usually on older cars, so don't have immobiliser issues lol.

As already said, any help is appreciated.

If i were to get the ecu unlocked, as already asked, would that mean i could remove the immobiliser box and transponder coil? Not too worried about running the immobiliser, as the car will mostly be used a track toy, but could always see about a decent aftermarket one eventually

If you want your ecu unlocked i can do it, and no you wont need the immoboliser no more, i also got a vtr unlocked ecu you can buy.
  14. #14
How much mate to unlock mine? its a 3 plug VTR one (think i said that in the first post lol), or how much do you want for your 3 plug VTR ecu?
