Helicoil

Anyone have any average idea on prices for getting a sparkplug hole helicoiled? i know there was a bit of banter about around taking the head off, but ideally i'd want to leave it on, as otherwise it makes more sense for me to buy another head as i'd be doing cambelt+gasket+new coolant and oil anyway.

    flame away

I paid some mechanic to come to the car and helicoil it for £40, steep.. but cheap kit's are £30, and probs wouldnt use it again, so i paid the extra £10.

Left the head on too, was fine for 20k+ miles..

sounds good to me, was about the price i expected, it doesnt make sense to helicoil the head if you need to take it off as you'd be best just getting another head altogether. was hoping to come across a dirt cheap vtr engine on here and just change the whole lot but alas, no

Ahh, i've got a dirt cheap vtr engine, but will be easier/make more sense to get a mechanic to helicoil your engine for same price..

Hellicoil sets are cheap enough, just buy your own and do it yourself, you neve rknow when you might need it again in the future

aye true! Is it best to take off inlet and fuel rail for more room or will it be doable?? Its the third cylinder (2nd from fly)

probably easier to take as much off as possible to ensure you can do a perfect job and will make your life easier

How weird. Mine spat number 3 out too.

And i removed inlet before, but that was because i was having a look to see what was wrong lol.
