fitting a clutch

  1. #1
fitted the new clutch to the saxo today, but after putting it all back together it was dificult to select gears and the clutch was not disengaging drive properly

so have i fitted it correctly??

i fitted it with the protruding bit towards the fly wheel like this

but should it be this way??

thats the old clutch in the pics

You shouldn't be able to fit it with the plate the wrong way round as the clutch hub hits the flywheel bolts. Is your cable working properly?
  3. #3
cable is fine, i noticed fitting one way it seemed to lock into the flywheel, but the other it was loose, either its wrong way round or i have a feeling the thrust bearing got knocked out of position

also when pressing the clutch there was a screeching sound

Try to adjust the cable mine did the same when i done mine wouldnt go in any gears adjusted cable and its fine

I fitted mine with the far bit pointing inward toward the fly

If it was wrong way round it would make hell of a racket and rip itself to bits. Release bearing is possible, does it make any noise when the clutch is down? Once its in does it slip or anything?

yeah, push the pedal and it screeches mate
  8. #8
Can you engage the gears? It looks like your going to have to take it apart again.

it crunches going into gear mate, and the nut on the end of the cable has gone up over an inch

also the clutch lever felt a bit loose

job for tomorrow morning mate, iv just read the haynes manual and it says the spring asembley must face away from the flywheel, so i reckon the clucth is in fine , so hopefully its the release bearing

You've fitted it the right way, if its not the cable it'll be the bearing or a faulty clutch
  14. #14
Yeah with that movement in the arm its looking like release bearing not engaged properly on the fork.
  15. #15
If you've fitted the clutch as shown in your pics then it is defo the right way. Sounds very much like the realease bearing is not located correctly with the screeching sound. Did you fit a whole new clutch kit? pressure plate, friction plate and release bearing?
  16. #16
yeah it was a complete kit mate
  17. #17
I had similar problem. Pretty sure would be down to how the release bearing would be sitting.

We had a problem like this on my brothers 306 after fitting a new clutch, The cable looked fine but it had sagged/stretched so we got a new one and it worked fine after that
