    Hi people
    Just a quick one:
Carbon fibre rocker cover for a MK2 VTR?
    Possible?
I've seen one, but since found out it got sold to a german....in germany....

If anyone could back me up/shoot me down in flames, it'd help! well the first more than the second

I'm a bit confused, do you mean would it work? If you do mean that, then yes it would, there a few cars with custom carbon rocker covers, i've seen a mini and an escort rs turbo with them. Never seen one for sale in this country though, saying that, i havent really looked haha

    Apologies for being confusing
Ok so it's possible, who does them?
That's my main question, where can I get one!?

That's where the one in the link was made
I've emailed them but no response as of yet
I'm studying composites at uni at the minute but making a carbon fibre rocker cover is too 'safety critical' :/

Just that listing saying its a 1-off :/
Possiblity of 'wrapping' a rocker cover? Or would the heat mess it up?

Yeah it probably was, you'd have to get in touch about making another similar one i'd have thought. Cant see it being cheap. You mean laying the carbon and then the resin over the top, or dodgy 3m carbon wrap stuff? The carbon and resin way would probably work and be a reasonably cheaper way of having real carbon.

I'm thinking the proper resin and material lay up process
But wouldn't the cover heat just re activate the resin?

I wouldn't have thought so, once its gone off it would have to get proper hot for it to deform, tbh rocker covers don't get that hot.

I beg to differ in the case of mine! 5 minutes and its like standing in the bowels of hell!
    That could indicate a problem....

in terms of engine temperatures, rocker covers really don't get THAT hot

but im not sure what the melting point is of the resin you are talking about.

i emailed Streamline carbon about this a few months back.
they said that they made one as a prototype but it was never ever meant to be used as the oil breather wasnt right.

and they wont be making anymore sadly
i had thought of just getting mine wrapped

internal temperature could affect the external wrap :/
