Trackday Helmets

   Just wondering if peoples helmets are MSA or FIA approved?
   
   BS6658 Type A/FR
   BS6658 Type A
   SNELL SA2005
   SNELL SA2000
   FIA 8860-2004
   SFI Foundation 31.1A, 31.2A
   
   And have you ever been checked at a trackday to see if the helmet is approved?
   As I've seen few people say on other forums that no one ever checks so may as well just get one thats non approved as there cheaper.
   
   What helmet have you got?

   I always used Motorcycle aproved helmets.
   
   Not sure what standard they are, but they've been fine for racing in.

   Ive a Bell Sport 2, I think thats BS and MSA approved. Only cost me 60 quid as well!

   the BS ones are being revoked soon.... its all going to be msa/fia
   
   as ppl are just putting kitemarks/bs logos on the older or non approved helmets and passing them off
   
   the newer system will be easier to see fakes and rip offs etc

   I would always get a snell 2010 helmet if i was to get a new one. The longest lasting fia/msa approved accreditation unlike some of the other msa and fia approved markings.
   if you can't spend the sort of money that is spent on the car, on safety gear then you should have a serious think

   I would use a karting or motorcycle helmet if on a tight budget though I forked out for a proper nomex lined one.

   heck karting places have checked it more often than track days.

   I've never had mine checked either. I got one that was up to approval just in case though.

    You'd be hard pushed not too find one thats UK approved anyway, unless you're buying an Ebay one for 15 quid.
    
    I recall seeing a test between a selction of helmets, from 600 pound Arai's to 40quid Nitro helmets, and the majority of the cheaper helmets came out stronger from the tests.
    
    -All approved to the same standard of UK road use and MSA motorcycle use too.

    I remember reading that all track day organisations were going to enforce msa helmet approval regulations, which would rule out motorbike helmets, but i haven't seen any evidence of this being implemented

    All Arai & Simpson bike helmets are approved to Snell certifications or more,aswell as pretty much all Bike helmet manufacture's... which are MSA approved.
    Some BSI approved ones are being removed from the MSA book in something like 2014 and some already have been removed, theres loads of BSI standards though. Tbh, I can't remember the last time I ever saw a bsi rated helmet on sale though.
    
    Pretty much all are Snell or FIA approved- Which exceed MSA regulations anyway.
    
    Regardless of the standard its at, I'd still prefer a bike helmet thats proven to soften the blow and reduce injuries by Twatting your head on the tarmac at 200mph over one thats tested for a car lets say.

    bought a new bike helmet not long ago..he told me what i posted above..the bs is being irradicated... msa/fia were easily recognisable
    
    supposed to be getting all barcode labels aswell
    
    scan on the day to find a fake via pic referance

    I just have an OMP open face and its fine for now.
    
    When my passenger came on track with me he rented a helmet out from the track day organisers and the helmet was nothing special.
    
    But best idea is to cater for your own safety when going on track. Do what you feel's right!

    remember that car helmets are designed with different scenarios in mind.

    Never had my helmet checked. Full face motorcycle helmet would be my choice - want to keep my teeth intact if anything happened.

    agreed, i prefer a full face helmet. saves your face from debris and all that. "yay i survived, but need a full face skin graft"

    I have a open face track day helmet, so dont think its fia standard. Never had it checked.
    
    I am planning to upgrade to a full face fia helemt though as I want the best protection for myself. Never skimp on safety. All well and good buying turbos kits, etc but if you cant afford to protect yourself then no point with all the go faster bits etc..

    open face are still fia approved. just look at the wrc

    Yeah I know but mines called a track day helmet and isnt. Plus Id rather have full face. My friends would agree I need one as I have crashed before.

    I'm not convinced. I believe my Simpson motorsport helmet to be exactly the same as the motorcycle version, just with the nomex lining. I would argue that a motorcycle helmet would need to be stronger as there is more risk and far more risk from direct impacts than when strapped to someone in harnesses and a bucket seat

    motorbike helmets are not tested for roll bar or object impacts. they are designed to withstand surface loading with contact with a flat surface in testing. This will differ in the way in which they are constructed
