Important! : the fuck has happened!?

was out earlier in my car and noticed it was getting increasingly difficult to get into 1st and 2nd gear.
came home and 15 mins later had to go to tescos, put the clutch down and into 1st then it stalled, tried again and into 2nd and it stalled. while it was in gear i pressed the clutch down and tried to start the car and it wouldnt start, like the car would move if you get me cos its in gear if you get me?
and as i press the clutch down now it goes down freely half way then after there is slight resistance, if that makes sense?
    help!

Clutch slipping/knackered? In fact could be release bearing
  3. #3

  4. #4
    release bearing has failed
  5. #5
    so what does this entail?
expensive? big job? long job? rough price?

clutch kit is about 80 quid and make sure you get a valeo kit they last longer to change a cluth you got to remove driveshafts and gearbox then change clutch and re-assemble if your not mechanical i would buy a clutch kit and pay a mate or garage to fit it

Why does no one on this site pay attention to anything to do with shit clutches. You put that shit clutch on from ebay and it will fuck up you say to them its fucked up and they will send you another shit clutch. They wont cover the cost of fitting and they deffo won't pay for it fitting the second time.

Buy a l.u.k clutch or a valeo no other clutch is worth looking at as they are shit and will fail.

Up to you though.... But i cant see the point in paying for a job doing multiple times just for the sake of another £50 for a valeo kit.

    trueee!
right next thing, the car is completley undriveable and i wont have the time/knowhow to change the clutch soo..im guessing the only option would be to trailer it or something to a garage?
  20. #20
As above release bearing will need changing - you can either change just the bearing itself or fit a new clutch kit, its up to you. Ive got a very good condition Valeo release bearing for £7 -should be good for a very long time.
  21. #21
sick to death of warning people off cheap and nasty clutches, some folk must enjoy taking gearboxes out lol
  22. #22
so is it deffo just the release bearing needs replacing or will it be the whole clutch system?
  23. #23
so you plan to just change the release bearing? imagine how happy you'll be 2 weeks down the line when you're taking the box out again to change the clutch. i realise you're skint but sometimes false econmoies turn round and bite your arse, hard

The above wont fit, you will need a 1.6 VTS/VTR clutch kit. They badged the 1.4 as a VTS in parts of Europe but not in the UK.
  28. #28
cheapest we can do a valeo for a vtr is £112 posted

anything from £100 to £800..I paid a garage £150 to do mine excluding parts - that was the cheapest I could find in my area. I dont usually take mine to a 'normal' garage because most of the time they are ran by spanner monkeys ( no offence to real mechanics).
  33. #33
we charge £225 supplied and fitted for a Valeo
  34. #34
hmmm i'll have to ask around then!
and im guessing i'll have to trailer it or whatever to which ever garage as its undriveable
