temperature gauge problems

    Hi my temperature gauge keeps going up and down just happened yesterday. then when important driving it stays at the bottom off the dial. then will occasionally go up and down again. its a 1.4 petrol auto . any advice please

    Change the sensor on the thermostat housing mate(blue one)I believe circ £15.00 but 1st check the dashboard earths at the bottom of the dashboard(where the carpet comes up)

    +1 on thermostat sensor, have the same issue with my VTR, think there only £10.00 from Europarts.

    Mine suddenly did this tonight I drive about 40 miles and nothing showed a corsa up (for fun) parked up and when I started again my temp gauge was at the bottom every now and then would go right up over the top of the max line and drop back to bottom a few times then nothing :/ will this affect my fuel consumption or Is the engine temp sense separate?
