broken top mount

  1. #1
Do you guys think my top mount has gone?

Engine looks like it has dropped in my opinion but what do you guys think?

Also do get a bit of vibration through the car in the rev range

The bolt in the top (ECU) engine mount has possibly snapped? Very common.

That's what I'm thinking mate, My previous one did the same thing the bolt that holds the arm onto the bottom of the mount... Is this the one you mean?

    HELP please people

Took the ECU and ECU tray out today, Unbolted the two 13mm bolts holding the mount and it stayed secure so obviously the little bolt that goes through it isn't broken... Any other ideas guys?

Looks like it has dropped but obviously isn't that low due to the mount not actually broken?

this happened to my mates gti twice. was the bolt that goes through the middle which had snapped

just said that mate lol, took the 2 13mm bolts off and if that bolt had broke then you would be able to lift the top part off but i couldnt it was still all together

what conditon is the buffer in on the ecu mount if the buffer is worn that will explain the vibrations
the buffer looks like this it sits between mount and mount bracket

This was my next thought mate it did look a bit split so will jack the car up and take mount right off give it a good look over

Still doesn't explain why it has dropped a bit

the bolt that joins them could have worked loose

    Hmm maybe

Will take a look tomorrow hopefully :-)

I'd check the rubber buffer first as those things only have a life of about 6years and every Saxo I've had has had knackered ones, if they're fine then it's probably a loose/snapped bolt

Vibra-Technics engine mount is the way forward - uses a bigger bolt. Don't need buffers for it either.

Don't want the car to be a bone shaker tho lol

If your boosting it you'll need them

Boosting is stll just a thought mate but would love to... Always wanted a boosted 16v, Was half way there then gave up when my engine went pete tong lol
