Rear wheel camber

  1. #1
    Hi guys

I found out ages ago that my car is crabbing down the road when driven, I also have to steer left often, but not always to keep the car going in a straight line, I looked at the rear wheels and while the drivers side one looks fine, the passenger side one is at this: / sort of angle, what is involved in fixing this/what could it be, and what are the costs?

Someone said the car might be bent and the door seams are just very slightly wider on one side, but surely fixing the wheel problem would bring the car back to driving straight?

I'm debating whether to fix it or go out and part exchange it for a new one, any help much appreciated

    Thanks, Ben

Okay, so how much does this cost, and is it worth doing when the car might be bent anyway?

as cam said is usualy the problem.

    could also be twisted?

very doubt the car is bent you'd be able to tell.

if you can do it yourself then just the cost of an axel. 2nd hand ones are around £75

The drivers side front door meets perfectly with the front wing, but the passenger door sticks out a bit, the rear drivers side door doesn't meet up with the quarter panel, but the passenger rear door does its like the car is like this:

-\- (Front straight, centre bent, rear straight, and not on the scale my forward slash is at lol)

ah thats expensive, cheaper than a new car though

iirc my drivers door is the same as its a replacement the passengers wing could be that it's wrongly adjusted due to a replacement sometime in it's lift.

and £75 isnt that expensive mate. better than £350 if your not thinking of keeping it for a long time.

That's a good point, I'll speak to the mechanic that looks after the car tomorrow, then after that, theres the:

    - Driveshafts need replacing
    - Steering rack and drivers side wishbone need replacing
    - Car needs a damn good clean!

If the bearings on the beam have gone then it'll mess up not just the camber but the toe angle on the rear. Causing a car to crab.

If you have the money for a GOOD beam then i'd reccomend you speak to IM Axles, they're also an affiliate on here.

Yeah the bearings were mentioned, but it passed its MOT no advisories last month and it had started crabbing long before that lol

Then your mot testers an idiot if he passed it ad it was crabbing
Dont piss about with a second hand axle 90% of the time they fail after not too long anyway just fork out on a refurbed unit

Fitting isnt hard th but a garage would take a few hours to do it

We have an offer on at the moment with 20% off all beams. Which brings the price down to £232 for a 1.1 beam. Assuming thats the car you have, and were also offering 50% off fitting, which is now £50! All inclusive of VAT, thats a complete recon'd beam and comes with a years warranty.
