fuel gage problems

   hiii am i in need of a new fuel gage or fuel pump or what? Basicly its not a massive problem but usualy it tells me the correct amount of fuel ive got (i think) but every now and then it goes down so the petrol light comes on, even though i know ive got plenty of fuel then later it will go back up like after ive switchd off the engine and started up again and it goes down then later on ull notice its crept up abit? any ideas cheers.

   Inside the car at the bottom of the dash each side where the carpet comes up there are 2 13mm bolts(earths)Try tightening them up mate.

   i have exactly the same problem mate. Pisses me off when i set off on the journey to work with quarter of a tank, then just as i join the motor way the light comes on lol.

   the sender on the fuel pump might be knackered if its a mk2, think the mk1s have a seperate sender. easy enough to change its under back seat. or if your parked on a slant it will show lower or higher.

   There is an earth point on each side of the dash, if either (or both) is loose it can cause clocks/dials to play up

   Had this happen on few vts"s turned out to be the fuel pump relay.......

   hmmm ill try the earth thing but if that doesnt work ill just leave it, it's not a major problem just irritating abit. got my mot next wednesday i mite ask the garage cheers for the help
