Disconnecting The Battery

   I am installing some speakers but don't have a spanner handy to remove the battery connector, would I be okay cutting the speaker cable with the engine off and connecting the new speaker??

   doesn't the like just pull of/ screw off but i've never dissconnected the batter bad for saying i'm a mechanic
