MOT on wednesday

  1. #1
Hi basicly i got my mot on wednesday and just a few things i thought id ask, 1st my rear wheels look as though they have a slight camber however no sign of rubbing or anything, but if i go over a bump i get a cling noise comming from the back this happens over speed bumps and on bumpy roads and its worse when i got people in the back. do you think this is the rear axel?

secondly not very often but about once every 2 weeks when im using my car and i push down the clutch to stop or turn a corner the car just cuts out for no reason and in the same day it would happen about 3 times any ideas? cheers.

Slight camber is ok but if you jack the car up and are able to move the wheel about then it's likely to fail.

Post a pic from the rear on a flat surface.

Noise from the rear axle is like the ARB end plate, bolt either has snapped or needs tightening.

When you say cuts out, does it literally just die or does it sound like it struggling and then die?

ill get a pic tomorro. and yeah its running fine and it litriclly just dies and i have to start up again

To be honest, the only thing that may fail from the problems you have listed is the rear camber....assuming its bad enough of course.

Every Saxo/106 I have owned has had slight camber

hopefully its not the axel then ill find out on wednesday anyway as for the ARB end plate if i was to leave this until after the MOT would it fail because of it? cheers for the help.

Nah shouldn't do (I could be wrong) as I don't think its part of the MOT.

PM Tontsy on here, he is an MOT tester so could answer 100%

if the snapped bolt is spotted it should fail

Ahhh there you go then, I wasn't sure but I suppose any snapped bolt in the suspension will fail if they see it

not only from a suspension point of view but if the bolts snapped and the arb wriggles its fiendish way out, whats it going to touch first? yep, a wheel, which if you're lucky will make a hellish noise, unlucky and it'll come to a sudden stop and you'll die horribly

Assuming it has snapped then you will have to get the old bolt removed...

It doesn't have to be rubbing on the arches to fail the MOT, anything more than slight camber will likely fail.

Jack the rear up and check for play, if there is any noticeable then it will probably fail.

Had a feeling it might, anything more than slight camber is normally new Axle time.

Front ball joint is cheap enough
