How to remove Rear Bulbholder from the Brown Wire Socket?

  1. #1
Can anyone advise how to remove the Brown Wire Socket () from the Rear Bulbholder unit?

I've just bought a replacement bulbholder because my old one had corroded due to leaking rainwater failing break lights. But I can't get the old one off. I've tried pulling very hard but it seems to be clipped on with some gold retainer around the socket. I'm sure its simple but i've had a look in the Haynes and it doesn't seem to say how to unclip it...

    Any suggestions please?

Thanks will try again in the mornin when its light...

The metal bar thing doesn't seem to budge, may need a screwdriver or somethin. Not bothered about snapping the old black bulbholder but don't wanna damage the brown socket...

Electircal screwdriver (as its small) between the plastic and metal, pull that out and pull socket apart

Thanks for everyones help. I've just sorted done it now in the daylight.

Here the easiest way I found to remove it incase anyone needs to know in future:

    1) Keep the Bulbholder Face up (so the bulbs/sockets face you)
    2) The Brown Connector with Wires should be on the otherside back side
    3) Look inbetween the holes (square) in the bulbholder to identify the 2 Gold Rings which mark the end of the retainer clip
    4) Use a Screwdriver, push end through ONE of the holes and squeeze down
    5) The clip should then release (be care it may spring off on to the floor)
    6) Wiggle the Brown Connector and remove socket with wires intact.
