Just curious really but how long is advisable after driving (for a few miles say) would I be able to get an accurate oil level reading?
Assuming I didn't wany to leave it overnight?

Pretty sure it just needs to be warm. So run it for 5 or 10 mins then check it on a level surface.

As above just run the car for a few mins , make sure your level or you won't get an accurate reading , I check my oil every time I have to top up with screen wash , just as a precaution

Just get it on a flat surface and take a reading.
In theory you should only ever need to check the oil during every service if it was filled to near the top mark on the last surface.

needs to be stationary and warm. I.e leave it on a level surface for 5 mins after running then check. Allows the oil to collect in the sump. oil is less viscous when hot hence it needing to be warm.
