Mk2 parts on mk1

  1. #1
Hi all i have a mk2 vtr and its just failed mot in a big way but i have been offered a mk1 1.1 with full mot and loads of service and only 58 thou on the clock so i wanted to know what will fit off my mk2 ie boot bumpers vtr kit and anything else and how easy is it to change from 3 nuts to 4 on the wheels as the 1.1 is a 3 nut. Thanks

Boot will fit the bumpers will fit as well as the rest of the vt kit. You`ll need to cut the rear arches for the 1/4 panel kit to fit properly. All of your vt interior will fit as well.

you need to fit the bonnet, wings and slam panel to fit the mk2 headlights, iirc the slam panel needs a little cutting, ive you search for 'my smoothed saxo' in the progress threads, some guy has just fitted a mk2 front end and a vt kit to a flat arch mk1, you could pm him and ask him

the slam panel and the rear panels should be the only shell modification you'll have to do

yes bonnet will fit, need to change slam panel, bonnet, headlights, under headlight trims and wings to get mk2 front end, then fit the vtr kit. to swap to 4 stud just swap the front struts, anti roll bar and wisbones from the vtr onto the 1.1 and for the rear swap the axles over, assuming the vtr one is any good. then to make it look reasonable stick the vtr alloys on, lower it so it doesn't look like a Defender and drive away. Or go and buy a vtr/s and have at least a bit of performance to back up the looks without the hassles of lying in the rain, tigersealing your fingers to the car, bleeding brakes, trying to lift axles on your chest etc etc

I did think that all the hassle of swapping parts is it really worth it?
