Vacuum leak / Brake servo

  1. #1
Got a bit of a problem with my brake pedal sometimes sinking down alot but its not all the time. I also have a problem with the revs not dropping like they should so I was wondering could I have a vacuum leak on the brake servo as I know theres a vacuum pipe running from the inlet to the brake servo so I was thinking could the problems be related? I've checked out the vacuum pipe before and it seems like its ok so is the servo a sealed system that could have a leak? I don't really know alot about how the servo works so just checking on here before I go and pull it apart lol.

    Cheers,

    Ben

could be the pipe, what colour is your brake fluid? also it could be the diaphragm inside the servo or the slave cylinder, to test the slave u need to clamp the brake pipes and pump the pedal if it sinks then you will need to replace the salve. if your brake fluid is really dark i will need replacing, hope this helps dude

If a vacuum pipe goes the pedal will become extremely hard to press. quite the opposite of your symptoms. could be a mc seal problem

would it still have travel in the pedal if it was the servo? it seems like it will sink down a bit and then its quite hard to press once its sunk down

Another one to check is your brake line flexi pipes, I had a damaged one and the pedal would be reasonably firm but would still sink a bit kind of like how yours sounds. Evenually the flexi popped, so I put a new one on and its fine now, good firm pedal after bleeding and it feels as it should. Clearly my flexi line had be bulging/letting a tiny bit of air in. Failing that I'd check the seals on the master cylinder.
Check your throttle cable/body is not sticking too and the ICV.

had a quick look around the car today brake fluid looks fine and normal colour and the hoses all seem to be ok. I took it for a spin and I noticed that the brakes seem to be stiffer as in better if I accelerate hard then press the brakes (did this for test purposes) don't know if thats normal? but if im just driving normally and the revs are say 2-3k and i press the brakes it feels alot more spongy than if id just taken it to 4kish+ its really weird. the revs seem to drop quicker if i accelerate fast rather than slow too

The pipe your talking about popped off on my vtr.. same symptoms as you.. pressed brake.. nothing happened.. then had to press really hard when they did work.

so id say it's that pipe

Tried some new clips on the pipe today to tighten it down a bit and it seems like its made it better so hopefully i'm on the right track! gonna try a whole new/replacement pipe when i can get hold of one as I have a feeling the push fit connector could be leaking a little too which I can't really do anything with but replace.

By the way does anyone know if citroen sell the vacuum pipes new?
