Conversion Help - Think somethings blown

   Mate is currently putting 16v engine into my quicksilver
   
   Last night it was turning over but wouldnt start. Its try to but then just died.
   
   Then suddenly it sounded like something blew? Since then no lights on the dash and the key just click when i try starting it?
   
   Checked the earths, stater motor everything seems to be fine
   
   Also for some reason it was trying to start up on second turn of the key?
   Mate thinks this could be bad wiring?
   
   I know its abit of a poor explanation but its a really odd problem.
   
   Anbody any ideas? Any help is appreciated very much!!!!

   I have an idea i`ve read somewhere about(on here)with the ignition wiring/barrels being different on saxo`s/pugs maybe someone else knows more mate.

   EDIT: Convinced ignition barrel is ok

   Had this once on 16v swop,turned out ide blown maxie fuse in the little black box in the engine bay,40 amp fues.....hope this helps...

   Car is now starting and running fine. However...
   
   Anybody any idea why it would be starting on the second key turn? (ignition lights etc)
   
   Ive searched for ages but never seen or heard of anything like this.
   
   My mate has checked all his wiring several times, fuses etc.
   
   He thinks i need a 98 Gti loom but it ran fine in my vtr using the same loom etc. (Conversion done by Ricky P)
   
   So confused and desperate for my car back now!!!!
