    Evenin all

    2001 vtr
    107k on the clock
head gasket went on the motorway few days ago

pissin with white steam, engine died and all the usual

    [[ Birmingham Area ]]

    been quoted £380 for:
Parts inc. cambelt, waterpump, head gasket
    skimming
    fitting

    whats your opinions on this?

iv still gotta check then the cambelt was last changed, you reckon its necessary to be changed if it wasnt long ago?

    Thanks in advance!

Seems an alright price to me, mightaswell have the belt done for the price they cost.
  3. #3
that price is not bad to be fair, i paid nearly 450 fr it last time, go ahead wih it, make sure they use good quality parts!!
  4. #4
definately do the cambelt unless its literally just been fitted
  5. #5
unlucky on your car. What garage is that your using, seems reasonable to me.
  6. #6
its about the same as we'd charge so a reasonable price there

    Headgaskets

    1.0, 1.1, 1.4 and 1.6 8v Engines – £340
    1.6, 1.8, 2.0 16v Engines – £480
Headgasket includes – Full head rebuild, including new camshaft oil seals, valve stem seals, inlet and exhaust manifold gaskets, headgasket, head skim, new cambelt and tensioner/idlers, oil change, coolant change and new Thermostat.. Waterpump extra.

Seems you've got an okay price there Obviously i do a head rebuild, not just a headgasket.

@Gandi699 : got a feelin it was about 85k.. so sounds like ill have to have that done

@Carlvtr88: a "mobile" mechanic mate, still gonna try Formula One AutoCentre on Kingsbury Road Erdington. Theyve give me good rates before.

@Mandyslover70: my mate gareth at uni said to see what you thought too, said you was really good with things

@KrisB : sounds an appealing option, but i would need the waterpump doin too, and it would need a tow to you

@everyone else: : thanks for the feed back!

Waterpump would be an extra £22... if you've got breakdown recovery then just start your journey and tell em you were on your way down here for family stuff

otherwise, i can do recovery for £1 a mile... quite a few miles between me and you though.

@KrisB: yeah about 150 mile from me which is a shame

@jware92: jealous, id be laughin if i could do it myself for that price

one garage offered £350 earlier today

iv got mates-rates for £280 now, it was worth shopping around

thanks to everyone for the help and information
