Tailgate

  1. #1
Had smashed rear window and have managed to source a whole new tailgate in the same colour with the glass and i'm just wondering how easy a job this is?

Anyone on here undertaken this job, how long it will and if any problems are likely to be encountered.

Thx in advance and hope to hear from u soon.

about 30 minutes, getting wiring through is hardest part

As above getting wires through is the hardest part, if your removing the new tailgate from donor car attach some string to the wires before you pull them through, then you can attach your wires to the opposite end and pull them back through, it only takes half hour but make sure you have someone helping you so you don't drop it on yourself when bolting it up.

as said above routing the wiring is the hardest bit. also is a two man job

    Thx all

Is the wiring coming thru to the tailgate from the main body of the car on a plug and socket arrangement that can be unplugged and reconnected to my existing wiring?

Don't wanna spend couple of hours in scrap yard tracing out wiring etc.

    Cheers

yeah it threads down inside the tailgate along side the window, then its just connected with plugs to the rear wiper etc, so just plug and play

Tie some string to the cables, make a loop at the end of the string then bend a coathanger & gently pull the cables through mate.

So, not enough slack on cables to pull thru and unplug? All appliances on tailgate gotta be done individually?

No all the cables are in a loom type package if you get me, you should be able to just loop one piece of string to the end, then pull the old loom through, and reverse for the new loom to go back in
