Coil Pack?

    Hi chaps

    Just after a few opinions.

Tried to take the car to the other halves parents last night (VTR Mk2), and got a bit of hesitation from the engine, just a little bit to start with, which rapidly became a judder which felt like the car wanted to stall constantly. It was completely undriveable, so had to turn around and limp it home. Luckily hadn't got far.

Engine management light was flicking at first, but is now on. I've connected a cheap diagnostic reader to it, and came back with a P0300 only.

I've not really had any similar problems since I've had it but have noticed in the last 12 months or so that the revs some times stick at 1500rpm, but will drop to the normal 1000rpm if I bring the clutch up to bite point. This is worse when the colder weather starts. I've tried cleaning the ICV but that had little to no impact - not sure if this is relevant??

I'm planning to pick up some new spark plugs and a new coil pack tomorrow - does this sound like the most likely cause?

    Cheers

P0300 is misfire detected, your new coilpack will fix it

    +1

the revs sticking will have nothing to do with the juddering. probably best get all the sensors and ICV out of the inlet and give them a good clean while you've getting the coilpack changed

Glad there is a bit of confidence it'll just be the coil pack - I really can't be doing with chase round after random sensors.

Seems to be a fairly regular issue with the saxo's.

Job done. Haven't replaced the spark plugs yet, they're a right bitch to get to, will get something to make that job a bit easier, but the coil pack replacement took all of 10 minutes - and cost me about £60.

Taken it round the block, all seems to be in perfect working order. Hopefully that's the end of that little problem.

    Cheers chaps

get a long SP socket on the end of a Universal joint, then an extension to the ratchet. as long as you go easy, you'll get them in and out. the only problem is you've got to be careful you don't tighten them up too far as the extension and UJ take some of the feeling out to me

I've got a torque ratchet to prevent overtightening. Just can't get in with the extension, I either need a shorter one or one which bends or something...
