   How do tighten the alt belt on the vts? Nine squeaks a bit when wet or when you put your foot down light flickers?

   A flickering light would potentially suggest something more sinister, have a look at the connections and try checking voltage output and battery voltage as well, mine did this and it turned out part of the wiring was shot!!
   
   If it is this i have a ready made replacement

   Flicking light may mean a bad connection.
   
   Check the connectors, they can rust over time.
