Breathing Pipe Missing?

  1. #1
Had a mate look at my car and where the manifold is I think at the front of the engine their is a metal plate where a tube is supposed to go, and a plastic tube on the right. He said their should be a pipe their, will try get pics tomorrow if possible...

    Anybody know what I mean its a MK1 1.1

    EDIT :

Where the steel pipe is I don't have it

What could this do to the engine?

its only for manifold, wont do anything to your engine for not having one.

Cheers mate, all you do is post useful shit and hold utter banter at the same time...

    cheers

something to do with emmisions iirc

it would cool the manifold down at a guess, but by such a minut amount it's pointless, probably brings more hot air into the engine ha.

I never knew what it was for on my old car.. mine was wrapped with kitchen foil by the previous owner though coz it had a hole in it lol!

The silver pipe takes warm air off the manifold when the car first starts and pumps it through the intake to warm up the engine a bit quicker. The plastic pipes are just your air intake pipes.

It won't make any difference for not having them like people have said. These are usually the pipes that are removed in favour of either a replacement induction system or just straight pipework and a performance air filter in the normal housing.

all that it does is just is pick up warm air from the exhaust manifold to stop the throttle body freezing in the cold weather but it doesnt really get that cold in england its more for other countrys m8 so its nothing to worrie about

are you thinking of the egr valve?

As said, its probably better not to have one. The colder the air going into your engine the better

Just checked mine and its missing, anyone know the diameter of pipe/duct that is needed.

Mine refused to start in snow and sleet last night so wondering if it needs more hot air...

That pipe shouldn't stop it starting, your problem lies elsewhere it only assists warming up the car when it's cold & just running.

Seems my saxo forgot where to put the idle valve on idle to reset I did - ignition wait 10s, off, ignition wait 10s, off, ignition wait 10s, start and was fine!
