Was driving round and realised my temperature gauge was higher than usual just over 3/4 so got my car home (was only round the corner) let it cool down and put some water in, the gauge still showed that it was hot and didn't go down much, so i changed the thermostat, bled the pipe so there was no air lock and thought it would be ok, but the gauge still reads high, even when left over night in the morning it rises to half way once im at the other end of the street, ive felt both the radiator and the pipe neither are hotter than should be, and no steam or smoke or burning smells come from the engine bay, the only other thing i've noticed but not 100% sure on is that the fan doesnt seem to come on, weather this is because the car isnt actually getting hot enough for it to come on weather its broke im not sure, checked both fuses for the fan (F3+F5) both are fine, if anyone knows what will be wrong it would be greatly appreciated, not got the money to stick it in a garage or buy many new parts until something works, cheers, luke.
thermostat problems, help!

#2Do your heaters work? might need bleeding again, you are using coolant+water mix and just water correct?
-
#4Does you're car get hot very quickly from a cold start up?
Replace the water for 50/50 water + Anti freeze
Where about in Bedfordshire are you from? -
#5as said above, they will probably need bleeding, im new to saxos but its very easy to do! take about 10 mins
-
#6Make sure you bleed with a header tank otherwise you wont get all the air out!
-
#7Or do it nice and slow with the engine running and the bleed screw open slightly
-
#8A bit of a stab in the dark mate, but if you've bled the system correctly and changed the thermostat for a new one, maybe the gauge itself could be faulty?
Or its possible that the temperature sensor that supplies the gauge inside the car with the reading is faulty, I'm pretty sure that the furio has two, 1 for the ecu and 1 for the gauge -
#9Not necessarily the gauge being faulty, because on the thermostat housing theres a blue sensor which gives the gauge reading & these play up.
-
#10i think we've found the problem, he's using just water.
-
#13You dont want to run it on just water for numerous reasons but it should still work temporarily providing its all bled up.
What stat did you fit and were you sure it was working? Also is your water pump good still, running with just water has the effect of corroding the fins and then the water will not get pumped around the system effectively.
Blocked radiator could also be the case here too but I'd eliminate the easy ones first before looking at the gauges and electrical issues -
#14right, I've just bled the whole system and there were a few air blocks but all gone now, fingers crossed, anyway the gauge in the car still reads hot, although radiator and pipe are still only luke warm, so it must be the reader, im assuming the blue plug that sits behind the thermostat housing, anyone know its 'proper name'? cheers
