exhaust hanging off

so i noticed yesterday that my exhaust was getting pretty loud, (standard btw), i left it overnight last night and when i got back in it today i was driving through a country road and the noise became outrageously loud, louder than an aftermarket one and i heard clunking under the bonnet, i stopped immediately thinking it was a driveshaft. it wasnt the driveshaft and in fact it was the catalytic converter hanging about an inch from the ground, i basically crawled home as the car had fuck all power and plus the fact if the revs were over 1000rpm it was like a concorde, (noise not speed). so anyway was just wondering why the car had lost so much power, because of back pressure e.t.c?

the whole exhaust process is designed to be an effective system for getting the exhaust gases out from the engine. I'm no expert but if your exhaust is blowing or fell off then the whole systems expulsion is damaged. Causing a loss of power and obviously noise cause your gases are escaping before they even hit the silencer. As you mention back pressure and What not. Thats gonna be harmed by the blow Definately. I have a blow on my Downpipe which is being replaced with a new manifold tomorrow so I'll notice a considerable difference i Hope.

no prob mate. Although there are people on here who would be able to explain the math a bit better than me. Whilst your exhaust is fuck'd get yourself a stainless mate. Best doing mods when your original pieces break. Thats What i do and i dont notice any cost cause you'll stil spend money on a mild steel one. Why not spend an Extra bit and get one that you probably wont need to ever replace.
