accelerator cable

im pretty sure that i need to clean the icv, but i have also found that the car runs at low idle when the lights are on. while at the lights i pulled the accelerator pedal up slightly with my foot and it re-idled fine like it should. my question is is there an adjuster for the accelerator cable other than the split pin thing. is there any other way of tightening it.

only way is with the adjuster in the engine bay as far as I know, if that won't make it tight maybe the cables stretched?

yeah thats what i thought. when it was running at low revs i put the clip on the cable a bit higher and it run to fast. but when i pulled the pedal up it slowed. problem is when i replaced the clip to the original place and it run really slow then pulled up on the pedal it stabalized at normal revs. so thinking cable isnt returning properly.

saying that though the cable shouldnt need to be tight for it to idle, it should idle fine even with the cable disconnected because its the idle control valve that controls the idle not the cable. Also it could be battery/alternator related if it gets worse when your using more power from the battery

it is odd mate. it revs to low when lights ect on. but does misfire mid throttle like the icv needs cleaning. i dont get why pulling the accelerator pedal up makes it idle fine. its only a slight movement needed. could it be that its making the idv move a bit and resitting how it should?
im confused, definately needs the icv cleaned so mabey that will sort it out.

Pulliung th ecable will open the throttle and allow more air which will inturn raise idle speed. The ICV valve does this for you automatically if it is workling right to compensate for high electrical loads such as lights/cooling fan etc, cold running when the engine is not at temp etc. As you have said sound like the ICV. Oncle cleaned and refitted you may need to go on a 10 minute drive so it resets itself (at least I had to do that th elast 2 times I cleaned and refitted the valve).

    Good luck mate

thanks mate. as soon as this cold and hurricane style weather eases off i can take the icv off and give it a clean. i didnt know about the resetting of the valve. thanks for the tip
