Brake Disc, Do you get what you pay for?

  1. #1
Some disc's, without pads are £80 and some disc's are £40

Is the price so different due to the materials its made from and less likely to warp?
  2. #2
    pretty much mate, better quality
  3. #3
    go for mintex.

    cheap and good quality.

This, imo though its the pads that make the real difference rather than the discs
  5. #5
I'd get some EBC pads. Just the disc's i was wondering about.
  6. #6
i would recomend standard replacement mintex disks with mintex 1144 pads, or some EBC pads as you said mate.

i bellieve yellow stuff are pretty good?
  7. #7
I use Pagid discs as they tend to be fairly cheap from eurocarparts with the 25% or so discount code they usually have.

I use them with EBC yellows and not had any problems so far.

I intend to replace the rears in the next few months. I will be using green stuff for the rears.
  9. #9
any thing by the main brands tbh

    yes pay cheap, expect cheap

its pads that make the most noticeable difference

Don't use green stuff pads, they are awful !

OEM is better than green stuff, especially on the rear

Do you think? I have these on the front and think these grip well compared to OEM ones. I want some Yellow ones for the front though. The backs don't really do much braking unlike the fronts.

When they get nice and warm that's when it kicks in. I've only ever had the brake pedal go hard/ squidgy on me once, i think that means the brake fluid is hot?
  12. #12
yellow stuff are the nuts imo
  13. #13
Dan, stay away from gren stuff...

Not only are they crap, you can get away with standard OE pads on the rear, even a serious track saxo doesn't need anything ridiculous on the rear. Toad ran 1144's and never over heated them...

Edit, Ross beat me to it lol

Probably overkill but the braking feels immense.

One of the best odd track day/fast road pads out there imo. You pay a premium though, think they are about £80~ a set of fronts new on the saxo

    Thank You Ash,

Standard Mintex ones for about £4 are no problems on the rear Winrar

Any pads you get for a saxo won't be too expensive in the grand scheme of things. i'd be happy to pay £100 + for a good set of pads. braking is an area that is never worth skimping on. Pagid are a reputable brand and make superb pads. i run rs4-2 blues

I was using standard vts discs with Carbon Lorraine pads which were great for track.

I am exactly the same. I would never skimp money on stopping, steering and visibility.

I'm going to order the Yellow Stuff's for the front and put new disc's and my hardly used green stuff pads on the rears (If they fit), if not, OEM
