intake of air

Right i just got a new exhaust fitted to my car, 421 manifold, de-cat and some sort of back box XD, as the manifold gets hot quite easy i was wondering what is the best way to have a good cold air intake to the car engine without having the spend a huge amount, any ideas?

    thanks!

    cold air to what?

    to the airfilter/inlet?

    or onto the actual engine?

of course the manifold is going to get hot very easily, its an exhaust manifold lol.

all the hot gases going through that, gets hot within seconds of starting the car.....

to the actual engine, as i have the standard air filter at the moment, i had a cone filter connected directly to the airfilter box thing, but took that out as ive been told it is very bad, and yeah thats what i mean but hotter than the standard exhaust manifold (:

cone filters are normally perfect for this kind of setup, mani + air filter =

why was it bad, in what way?

an un shielded or enclosed filter will suffer from heat soak.

as the 421 generally does not have a heat shield, the air filter will intake more hot air than normal? isn't this true? =/
