My 2000 saxo 1.1 makes a rattling noise when turning hard and im thinking it is the drive shaft or bearing on left front wheel. Im skint and im wondering if these parts from a 03 1.2 clio will fit because we have one in the college garage???
Important! : Will clio 1.2 drive shafts fit a saxo 1.1

#2Are you for real????
Clio shafts to fit a saxo??????!!!!!! -
#4Was thinking because theyre both little french cars they would be same part i havent looked yet at either of them!
-
#5Was this a stupid question?
-
#6No question is a stupid question if it could save you some wonga!
-
#7Is it the drive shaft if its rattling while turning or bearing??
-
#8Yes mate its a stupid question but its OK cos everyone has to start somewhere.
Fair enough if you're trying to fit one from a Citroen to a Peugeot and vice versa because they're the same company but Renault is different altogether. -
#9Yes it was a very stupid question.
Edit: Mieran beat me. -
#10I hope you are not taking mechanics at college....
-
#11Thanks for the support guys, I am a student mechanic and you learn these things by asking questions!!
-
#12I thought Renault was part of PGO goup??
-
#13Yeah but that's like asking if a 2011 mazda 6 exhaust will fit my 1989 mx5 just because they're the same company!
I can't see why just because the car is a similar size and has the same country of origin you'd assume they have the same parts? -
#16Its nothing like that! mx5 rwd for a start!
Its not uncommon for car companies tho share parts with other companies when they are from the same country, nowadays most cars are very similar apart from body styling.
The 2000 saxo and 2003 clio are both front wheel drive small french cars with very similar engines and axles, for example my saxo has peugot 306 disks and caliper on it which was near enough a straight swap and yes i said PEUGOT!
I joined this club for support in the learning process whilst in college if you sit their watching the forums to pounce on someone with a CLEVER remark its not helping anyone. Even you have to ask questions to learn something!
P.S thanks to anyone who tried to help! -
#17Will go on ebay now thanks
-
#18The calipers are usually made by another company such as girling for example and obviously will be a similar fit to the hubs as pug/citroen are owned by the same parent company and are thus manufactured to suit to keep a parts commonality. The rear calipers from a saxo are the same as the ones from the 02-05 renaultsport clio range however but things like engines and transmissions in the clios will bear no resemblance to the TU and MA gearboxes used in a saxo.Quote:Its nothing like that! mx5 rwd for a start!

#19You need to ask yourself, do both cars use same gearbox and hubs? Answer is probably no.
-
#20You didn't need to write all of that, I exaggerated to make a point. Instead of asking questions I'd look at the saxo shaft, look at the clio shaft and compare the 2. If one looked different I'd bin the idea. If they measured up the same then cool. Asking on a forum however was a bit silly. You've got all the resources there infront of you to find out, we haven't.Quote:Its nothing like that! mx5 rwd for a start!

#24Honestly I wouldn't worry about it. It's not a stupid question, only thing I can see here is stupid responses. Bullying mindset of saxp creeping in again by the looks of things. If you'd asked if a driveshaft from a Honda CBR 600 would fit a Saxo then yeah I'd say that was a stupid question.
-
#25Cheers , found out it wasnt even the drive shafts it was a track rod end doing the rattling lol £11 and fixed!
-
#26hahaha glad it were a cheap fix mate.
the clio has a totally different driveshaft set up to the citroen/ peugeot. the o/s (drivers side) slides onto a splined shaft that comes out the gearbox and the n/s(passengers side) is bolted to the gearbox with 3 13mm bolts.
where as the saxo slideds into the gearbox both sides.
but i can see where your coming from. about frence manufactures interchanging parts. unfortunatly renult don't share anything with other car companys so to speak.
but seeing as peugeot and citroen do people like yourself for exampe would think that renult would also. as they are french,
such as audi, volkswagon and skoda do where as mercedes and bmw don't and they are all german.
but like you say you didn't know so you asked and now you know, just becareful about flying off the handle on here mate, alot of the members on here forget that even though they are very knowlageable when it comes to the saxo/106 or other cars for than matter they tend to forget that alot of member are only starting out and will as to their eyes silly questions.
i hope my random waffle has been of some help
