Standard Brakes Grinding

Just a bit of help needed guys. The brakes were fine untill this morning ish. The other day i had a passenger in the back of the car quite a large on and i was going down a hill braked at the bottem now the car did slow down but the brake pedel nearly hit the floor, then was fine after that. Now on my way home this morning there is a grinding noise coming from where i think is the passengerside front. Its that usual grinding noise when your brakes need changing. Now i looked at the pad through the alloy and it looks like it has plenty meat on it but obiously i couldnt see the back one. Its definatly the front i think as I pulled the handbrake on whilst moving and it slowed the car down without making any noises.

I was just wondering if anyone could shed some light on the situation is it just a simple disk and pad swap or is it something more serious?

any ideas anyone im in limbo what to do?

It could be discs and pads but you really want a mechanic to check over your brakes.

If the pads and disc are fine cud be a stone or they need some copper slip on the pads. Failing that the brakes cud be sticking causing the grinding

Could you not take your calipers off and have a good look.

could be a few things tbh try looking at the calliper with the wheel off an see if the piston is sticking. if it does you need some brake grease to free it up.

or could be that you need your fluid replacing and bleeding, or could even be the bias valve that needs adjusting.

id say take it to a garage and ask them to identify it, just to be safe. don't want your brakes to fail....

cheers guys for the replies so quickly. I will have to take the caliper off to have a good luck but had just finished nights and was sooo tired. Kris im in washington tyne and wear buddy but thank you very much for the offer.

the outside pad looked in good shape so im hoping its just a stone wedged i cant imagine the back pad being completly shot and the front one ok unless something was seriously wrong. I will keep everyone posted cheers again
