Important! : Rough idle, misfiring with VIDEO

  1. #1
Firstly i don't think its a problem with idle control valve as i gave it a good clean yesterday, yet the idle is still really rough almost as if it wants to stall. Engine still pulls well in every gear however it just won't idle properly almost as if its firing on 3 cylinders. I'm thinking this could be a coilpack problem as the spark plugs are fairly new can anyone else confirm before i fork out for a new one.

Also i had a diagnostic done and it didn't have any fault codes apart from over fueling which was probably caused by the decat and rough idle.

This may not solve it but it helped my VTR,

Take out the Crank sensor located on front of gearbox and clean the crap off it,

    This sorted my idle out

i would put money on it being a spark plug breaking down inside even if they are fairly new some plugs do this ive had it many of times before or coil pack breaking down inside as if you got the car tuned or a higher spec the coil pack and plugs are working harder so will break down quicker, ide try spark plugs first as its alot cheaper than a coil pack if not put coil pack on it and i bet it will solve it

    haope this helps matt

Doesn't sound good, more than just a rough idle I would say.

If you have changed the plugs for new ones then I would go with the coilpack next, pickup a 2nd hand one off here or Ebay. If it's not that then you can just sell it on.

looks like its blowing black smoke eg overfueling causing missfire.
    check lambda-map sensor-watertemp sensor.

Hi its fixed now, ended up just changing every sensor because i got so pissed off with it. Running perfect again my guess is that it was a dodgy lambda sensor but I guess I'll never really know now.
