so speaking to mr mot tester on this new stupid rule on having to have the airbag light click on then go off for mot time.... how are people doing this as mines taped over at the mo so doesnt see it at all. and pretty sure a resister will just keep it off?
airbag light for mot time
-
#1
-
#2got another 3 months before airbag light becomes a fail
-
#3i know i;m due in mot station in 4 months. so thought i;d ask now so i can get a head start on sorting it
-
#4a working air bag gives a resistance of 1.2 ohms, the control unit looks for this exact resistance on each airbag circuit to turn the light off
-
#5resistors wont just turn the light off completely. I have a 3 or 4 ohm resistor coming off each wire under the carpet under the seat, and the airbag light comes on with the turn of the key, and turns off after a second or so.
This way your pretensioners are basically by-passed -
#6if the light doesnt come on with the ignition then go out after a few secs then it will fail
-
#7What if your car has no airbags?
-
#8my pretensioners are pulled in its just the steering wheel airbag i need to sort out so light shows on ignition then turns off after a few seconds so would this work? and how the hell do u solder it all and find what resistors to use?Quote:resistors wont just turn the light off completely. whats this mean in english? pretty crap at electrics for car -
#9has anyone done a guide or how too for wiring these resistors into the steering wheel airbag part as pre tentioners are plugged in
-
#11Means you'll need a 1.2ohms resistor lolQuote:my pretensioners are pulled in its just the steering wheel airbag i need to sort out so light shows on ignition then turns off after a few seconds so would this work? and how the hell do u solder it all and find what resistors to use?

#12I have the resistors, how do I do this btw and how do I know which one is the issue other than trial and error?
-
#13if anyone fancys sticking up a step by step into doing this much love to them. as have no idea where to start and what to buy
-
#16you get the resistors from maplins or ebay etc. just ask for a 3ohm resistor.
you just poke the resistor into the connection block. One leg of the resistor for each terminal in the plug. And solder it/tape it all up. You then do the same for other seat. The car is 'fooled' into thinking the resistors are the pretensioners plugged in when they arent
Its most likely the plugs or pretensioners on the the seats which are causing the airbag light, rather than the airbag itself.
i did some trial and error with my pretensioners. So i put a resistor in the first drivers side with the passeneger side plugged in as normal. Turned the car on and airbag light was flashing. So Did exactly the same with the passenger side and the light was still on. Then did both seats and the airbag light turned off. -
#17can only fnd a 1.8ohm resistor will this do or do i actually need a 1.2resistor
-
#18Take the bulb out

#211 resistor for each terminal? so will need 8 in total or am I missing the point here?Quote:you get the resistors from maplins or ebay etc. just ask for a 3ohm resistor.

#23oh i didnt know that
thanks -
#24just looking in haynes modding manual think these are what we need...http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_kw...g&_kw=resistor and u solder them into the plug holes or tape them on. so u will need 3 of the ones in the linkQuote:1 resistor for each terminal? so will need 8 in total or am I missing the point here?

#25Hmm so what do people do with non airbag aftermarket wheels? Looks like I'll be slipping the guy £20...1 user thanked this post:

#26anyone confirm weather higher ohms will still be ok to use?

#28any one know if these are the right resistors to use before i buy?
-
#29Well my air bag light is on not sure what it is so mine is going to fail
-
#30its most likely a fault with the connector plugs under the seats
-
#31my mot is on thursday, airbag light flashes while driving so will this affect me?
also how do i turn it off as just got tape over it
-
#32wont effect u untill next year as these new rules come into play in april. but by the looks of it u just plug a resistor into the plug and it should work as normal. but waiting for mine to turn up to confirm
-
#33There was a thread on the new MOT's in march..
States that if the car had a airbag as standard, it must be present and working.. If you can't get a friendly MOT'er.. Will have to swap steering wheel's over for mot time.
But the light has to come on with ignition and go off when started, But obviously people with stripped cars etc who have taken airbag ECU out.. Then they will have to wire the airbag light into the oil light, so it comes on with ignition then goes off when started. -
#34i spoke to my tester yesturday and he said weather airbag is present or not the light just has to come on with ignition and then go out within few econds and it will pass
-
#35if its on all the time due to a fault, look under both seats and there are wires connecting to a small box, make sure the wires are plugged into it and then the light should go off.

#36If you have an aftermarket wheel then google max power saxo modifying ebook & download the pdf, instructions for the airbag are on page 122.
Then these of ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-8-ohm-re...item4aaf3742fe -
#37i have brought these but first few posts someones said u need 1.2 and no one has answered weather 1.8 will work the sameQuote:If you have an aftermarket wheel then google max power saxo modifying ebook & download the pdf, instructions for the airbag are on page 122.

#38How many of these threads are we going to have?
-
#43confirmed that the ebay link i bought does work with making airbag light come on with ignition and go off after a few seconds.
