Important! : Brake upgrade

  1. #1
    hey!

hi, I am after ugrading my brakes for my 1.1 i would imagine the VTR are the best way to go? just wondering if they bolt straight on? and is a disc change required?

    cheers and thanks!

apologys for the ''important'' prefix.... :s
  3. #3
    Have you got 3stud hubs?
  4. #4
yea its the 3 stud mate
  5. #5
You need struts and all of that business mate. Are you keeping the car and putting larger engine in or just leaving it as it is? I dont think you can even get any decent pads for 3stud solid disc brakes, just standard OE spec.
  6. #6
    thats not good news

yes it will be having a bigger lump in the next couple of months, mainly the reason i wanted the 'shitty' brakes upgrading

didnt want to change the alloys as they're nice wolfrace multispokes

If you are putting a larger engine in you may as well fit new struts, wishbones and then brakes aswell

Can probably get struts for £80 a pair maybe including VT brakes and same for wishbones.

but obviously you cant keep your 3stud alloys.

very unfortunate. I do like those alloys.

and I imagine keeping these brakes they will get very hot?

possibly just cut a hole in my footwell to 'flintstones brake' for how good these ones are!

Theyre solid discs and at the rate a VTS can accelerate you will be braking more often so they will get very hot lol

ok then mate thanks! there will be a brake/hub/stut etc.. upgrade in the coming months too!

more than likely vtr lump going in.

also just wondering does the vtr box have better ratio's?

as my current 1st is 27mph!
  11. #11
Better ratio's for what? Economical driving or acceleration?

Where abouts in Nottingham are you? Will you be doing the work yourself?
  12. #12
sorry should of explained better... just longer gears is what I'm asking.

even though the car isn't super quick it hits the limiter in 1st pretty quickly. (27mph)

its probably getting the vtr box anyway just wondering

I'm in wollaton, and the work will be half and half my friend has done it all before from 1.1 to 1.6 but kept 1.1 box in.

VTR will give you longer gears and reduce its acceleration. But you will need a VT drive shaft on one side cant remember which as the minor model drive shafts don't fit as snug into the diff. You then might need an intermediate bearing carrier for the VT drive shaft.

so if i get the vtr box with it shafts. all should be well. so looking at a full vtr front end upgrade pretty much
  15. #15
You'd be better off getting braided hoses decent pads and uprated disks..
  16. #16
You got it! You can put 1.1 shafts into the VT boxes but one side isn't a perfect fit and drips oil. For the sake of one VT shaft may as well shove one in.
