My vtr is running slightly hot gas not overheated but runs between half way and the red on the temp gauge and i have hot bubbles in the headertank is that the headgasket on its way out

#23/4 on the temperature gauge is fairly normal iirc.
Unless it's hitting the red then it's not overheating.
Usuall when the HG cracks, the oil mixes with the water or vice versa (or both) so take of your oil filler cap and see if there is any white/yellow gunk on it?
Get a compression test done as low compression on one or more of the cylinders is an indication of a HG failure. -
#3Bubbles could well mean your HG has gone, the slightest leak would send air into the coolant system causing lots of tiny bubbles.
Unless it hasn't been bled properly.
Check there is no white smoke and the oil water mixture and mayo under the oil cap.
This is when you know its gone..

Happened a few years back.
