..then I thought I'd better run this by the French car experts on here..

In my quest for better fuel economy over my Ford mondeo 2.0L I was looking at an 02 plate 1.4 Xsara (not picasso) and wondered if these suffered the same kind of faults like the Sax -Idle contol, coil pack failure.leaking sunroofs etc etc

or are these generally a better build?

Just curious to hear from those who have knowledge on these..

    Cheers as usual guys

it's the same engine out of the furio so yes i would expect it to have similar problems. although the 1.4 xsara won't move and the engine looks proper lost in the engine bay lol.and gets anoying after a while. have a few of them in at work + i hate to drive them the acelerator is sooo stiff and the clutch has no feel it's kind of either on or off no feel or anything.

thought about a 1.6 focus zetec or even the 1.8 tdci pretty nippy when chipped.

75bhp in a car which weighs about 1100kgs is not going to be nippy.

ICV and coil pack will likely be the same as it's the furio engine so same parts will have bene used, unsure on the sunroof

Cheers guys appreciate the advice so far..never knew the engine was same as a Furio

Mine was okay, blacktop vtr 8 valve engine, was nippy but definitely not quick, sunroof is good no leaks. Mine weighs 1020kg now its stripped and is sporting a 406 2.0 8 valve XU turbo engine (when I get round to finishing it) but its got to go soon so will probably end up breaking it to fund parts for the saxo vts I've just fallen in love with

engine wise they suffer the same problems as a saxo, running gear wise, they suffer the same as a lot of the parts are shared with the 306, which also suffer axle problems

    id check the rear beam

My dad bought one of these about 3 months ago and it felt a fair bit bippier than my Furio for whatever reason. Feels very sturdy, gearbox is a little stiff from 1st to 2nd but other than that it's fine so far..guess he got lucky?

x2 on the tdci. had a 2003 shape and it was a rocket a sensible remap would see 143bhp. standard does around 450+ miles to a full tank
