Important! : Saxo 1.1L Failed MOT - NEED HELP :(

  1. #1
Hi guys, Im trying to sell my Saxo 1.1L and it went for its MOT and failed. They quoted me £400 to get it all fixed up and I am interested in seeing if I can do it with my dad for less.

Here is what it failed on:
    Measurements:
Breakes Failures: RBT Service Brake Efficiency:41%, RBT Park Brake Efficiency: 8%

-Nearside front passengers seat cannot be secured in the upright position.

-Nearside front Vehicle structure has excessive corrosion, seriously affecting its strength within 30cm of the body mountings.

-Offside front Vehicle structure has an unsatisfactory modification, seriously affecting its strength within 30cm of the body mountings.

-Nearside front Vehicle structure has excessive corrosion, seriously affecting its strength within 30cm of the body mountings.

-Exhaust emissions carbon monoxide content at idle excessive.

-Exhaust emissions Lambda reading after 2nd fast idle outside specified limits.

    -Both front tyre's need replacing.

-Nearside front Front constant velocity join is insecure

-Nearside front Suspension arm synthetic bush deteriorated resulting in excessive movement.

-Offside front Rear brake recording little or no effort.

-Offside rear Rear parking brake recording little or no effort.

    -Service break efficiently below requirements.

    -Parking brake efficiency below requirements.

Certain things like the tyres and brakes I feel will be fairly easy to do. I understand that the corrosion will need welding and will probably pay someone to get that sorted.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks guys

Your emissions is likely to be the CAT that needs replacing, also when did you last service it?As this will have an effect on the running. The front & rear brakes will need stripping down & possibly things like brake pads/shoes wheel cylinders replacing(you won`t know until they`re stripped down)the handbrake cable may need adjusting or worst case scenario it`ll need replacing

    £400 for the lot?
doesn't seem like a bad price when you start adding up the cost's.

bit pricey though considering he probably got the car for under 800.

Best thing to do would be go scrappy get most things in there very cheap, then just pay someone or fix the corrosion yourself. (I can't see it being 400 if you shop around though)

could always over fill and paint the corrosion and take it to another garage.
thats whats been done to my pulsar as i discovered when steam cleaning the wheel arches

Yeah & end up with a death trap,if the corrosion is affecting the structure of the car.

    exactly.
think 400 is a great price myself.
guessing the rot on the pulsar was worse but was quoted over 400 for 2 6 inch square sections to be welded in and sealed

The reason why i don't really want to pay £400 for it is that i only got the car for £875 and the guy at the garage said its only really worth £500 these days with an MOT. Its a T reg as well so its not exactly the newest of models.

Thanks for the feedback guys really usefull, think i might save up some money and start it over the Easter break when im back from uni

Needs welding, a new handbrake cable, suspension bush, cv boot, two new tyres and most likely a cat.

I would say £400 is a good price for a garage to do all that.
