Spacers + Track?

  1. #1
hi guys, i would of posted this in the track section but havent been accepted as a member yet.

basically, ive got a set of fondmetal wheels and they dont fit over my 266mm brakes.

looking at it, it needs i would say approx 5mm spacers, maybe 10 to be safe.

but my question is, what are your views with using spacers on a track car?

surely it puts more strain on everything else and could cause more damage?

i read somewhere that it effects the turn in when spacers are fitted?

i know if i do use spacers to use hubcentric ones etc etc.

anybody shed any light on the matter?

my other option is to grind down the face of the calipers till the wheels fit, as it shouldnt need much more than 5-7mm and theres plenty of meat on the calipers, what you reckon?

    cheers.

    Just use different wheels?

If I was going on track, I'd be using Hubcentric spacers if needed.

But then again, i'd try my best not to use spacers at all if i could get away with it, with different wheels.

no ive bought these and spent alot of time and effort sorting them out and got tyres on them and stuff so im not selling.

i think im just guna take a bit off the side of the caliper with the grinder.

If your tracking it, would be better to sell and get lighter wheels with better clearance probably I would have thought.

the fondmetal wheels are really light. i will wiegh one this weekend but so much lighter than a vts wheel.

I have the exact same problem as you. I had some deep dish rims sitting around and in the meantime i fitted larger brakes...so when I finally put them on, they wouldn't clear gti-6 brakes. They *just* clear with 40mm spacing lol I am now looking at different rims.....

    40mm spacers. jesus haha.

I will buy them back? The brake clearance is a real shame, these wheels are rare, light and look great!

nah i will not sell them mate haha. even if it means running 5mm spacers so be it.

i should think grinding the front calipers will be fine, but if the backs foul anywhere on the body i will just stick 5mm spacers all round.
